2005-06-21 - 3:24 p.m. Man, what a time I’m having. The dead appliances were reasonably simple fixes. Both of them had bad intake valves. Deferring to the advice of my wife and father-in-law, we called a repair service for the dishwasher. Ten minutes and $115 later, we had a running dishwasher again. I could have fixed the dadblasted thing myself. Grump. We locked ourselves out of the house the other day. Our usual mantra when leaving the house is “Do you have the keys?” Usually I carry an extra set, just in case. That day I didn’t. We had to borrow the next-door-neighbor kid, carefully push the window unit out of the way, then boost him through so he could unlock the door. I’m definitely going back to my old habits. My Chevy crapped out again today. As I was downshifting, I felt something give. All of a sudden, the shifter moved very loosely, as if it were not attached to anything. I could only move between first and second, and the transmission wouldn’t move out of second. I had the thing towed from the lot; we’ll see how much it costs this time. This may be the end for the poor beast… I’ve worn through my khakis at the knee. Time for another trip to the thrift store… While my grandmother was in the hospital, they found a cyst on one of her kidneys. They’re not sure if it’s cancerous. If it is, Mom plans to put Grandma in a hospice until it’s over. The appointment is next Monday. On the other hand, the weather here has been wonderful, my daughter is wonderful, my wife is wonderful, and if I get too far gone there’s always Cookie Mongoloid. COOOOOOOOOKIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!
