Ten cool things that I'm pretty sure nobody else has done: 1. Hitchhiked from the northernmost tip of New Zealand to the southernmost and back (except for the few spots when I rode the bus) 2. Hiked the Grand Canyon three times before my 14th birthday (the first time when I was five). 3. Sung in a 100-voice choir as part of Christmas concert sponsored by the Auckland Regional Authority. 4. Traveled in a Datsun 210 station wagon from St. Louis to San Francisco to Fairbanks to New York City and back to St. Louis in a summer vacation. 5. Spent two summers in the Alaskan salmon canneries to help pay for college. 6. Audited courses in Precolombian art and archaeology at the University of Mexico when I was twelve. 7. Played the lead in an SCA production of Christopher Marlowe’s “Tamburlaine the Great”. (That was fun; lots of raving and scenery-chewing. Probably the only time I’ll ever wear a white belt, spurs, and a crown.) 8. Studied capoeira under Edna Lima, the only woman ever to achieve master ranking in the style. 9. Seen El Cid’s war-banner and the chest of sand he used to fund his first expedition in the Cathedral of Burgos. 10. Appeared in CBS Sunday Morning’s bit on Gulf Wars IX. All you can see is my helmet, but I’m in there.
