Hi-de-ho.

Lots going on, but very little I want to write about. There are so many political things going on, and so many skilled commentators commenting on them, that it's easier to point people at the Agonist than to talk about it myself.

(It's a sad commentary on the state of things when I have to go to a UK newspaper for news about US politics, though.)

Yesterday was our third wedding anniversary. We celebrated by spending the day together as a family and dealing with some catastrophic car failures. I'd been having problems with the brakes on my faithful Chevy, so I took it in for a look-see. Turned out there was a laundry-list of things wrong with it, to the tune of $325 in repairs. No problem; we have some savings and our credit is good. This means that the car is safe to drive again.

Then J got a call from her father; her old dog DeeDee, whom she had brought home years ago as a stray, died in the night. We had been expecting it, but it was still a shock.

We had plans to leave the Professor with a sitter and go out to spend time as a couple. Unfortunately, the sitter fell through. No matter; we'd postpone the date to this weekend and still go out for a bit. As we were driving along, we heard a rattling from under the van, as if something were caught in the undercarriage. Then the power steering went out.

Ever try to steer a minivan without power steering? It's a serious upper-body workout. Good thing I was the one driving.

The van is now at the mechanio's. We have no idea what's wrong with it, or how much the repairs will cost. Hopefully it won't be a substantial fraction of the van's worth, as we're still paying for it. If we have to go to one-car status, we will, but it's gonna suck.

All in all, we're still happy and healthy, so that's something.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow...
