Ya know, I think I was happier with my head up my ass…
Since this whole mess started, I’ve been reading agonist.org on a near-daily basis. And nearly every day I fond something to anger and depress me. The war in Iraq, chaos in Haiti and Afghanistan, partisan bickering, the crappy economy, Halliburton profiteering, the whole business. I was a lot happier when I didn’t pay much attention to politics and just let the world run by itself. J has been very patient with my ranting and raving, and with my increased activism. I’ve been signing petitions and sending e-mails to my congresscritters challenging them on various stances and encouraging sensible behavior. I don’t think John Kerry will be the savior of the country, but he’s better than the other choice.
In my more cynical moments, I indulge myself in bizarre conspiracy theories: that Osama bin Laden is actually in the cell next to Saddam Hussein, and they’ll announce his capture a week before the elections. Either that or else there will be a major strike on the mainland US and Dubya will impose military rule. Then Dick Cheney will pull off his mask and reveal himself to be an alien lizard, and it’ll be up to Marc Singer to rescue us all.
Thank God I have my wife and daughter to keep me sane and balanced. It’s hard to worry about the Bushites when the Professor is giving me one of her patented cheezball grins.
