2003-12-03 - 1:47 p.m. Sorry, folks, I've been writing crappy fiction. I know, I'm not supposed to start on NaNoWriMo until NEXT year, but it just sorta took over. Sue me. I thought I was doing pretty good, but then I found Orson Scott Card's writing lessons on his Hatrack.com website. Within five minutes I spotted three major errors in technique. I have no idea what motivates my main character, the beginning is totally wrong, and I'm bogging down in my own style. I was going to take a year, research everything fully, lay the plot out ahead of time. Yeah right; sometimes just sitting down and filling the page with crap of your own devising is satisfying. In the meantime, Christmas madness has begun chez Bootkiller. We've bought a big tree, started decorating the house, and are braving the malls. J listens almost exclusively to Christmas music on the radio, and watches an old tape of Christmas specials dating from about 1980. It's really strange to see ads for Graham Crack-Os and Atari video games. Am I justified in getting the screaming meemees after watching "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" for the fifth time? I'm gonna watch "Army of Darkness" sometime, just as a remedy. You watch.
