My daughter is now one year old.

In the course of this past year, she has developed certain habits and abilities that are mostly cute or endearing, occasionally frustrating, and possibly indicative of her future.

· As I am feeding her, she will occasionally take the spoon between her teeth and toss her head. This usually tears the spoon from my grasp, sending food flying all over the place. She will then give me one of her patented Evil Grins.

· She often feeds me little bits of whatever she's having. As she gets more and more into regular food, and more and more into imitating us, she naturally wants to feed us the way we feed her. She will often refuse to take a bite until we've eaten whatever it is she's offering.

· She detests hats, but will often drape blankets or towels over her head to play peekaboo.

· She likes being upside down. Upside down and swinging through the air is even better.

· As she gets better at standing up and moving about, she inevitably falls. Several times, I have seen her tuck her chin into her chest as she goes down so her head doesn't hit the floor. Perfect breakfall technique.

· She's also developed a killer head-butt. She's caught me a good few raps on the nose with her forehead as she stands in my lap. This plus the break-fall seems to indicate a future career in the UFC or WWF. Or quite possibly in a biker gang.

· She's started doing leg lifts while I change her diaper. Alternately, she'll do squats while holding onto the coffee table. She's gonna be the toughest kid on the playground.

· She has developed a taste for duck, Brie, crawfish etoufee, posole, Thai green curry, soba noodles, and peanut butter. Carrots are not her favorite, though, and she regards mashed potatoes as a suitable projectile.

· Swings are the greatest things in the world.
