Much happening. Much.

Packing for the trip, endless shopping for clothes and bags for the trip, buying things for the house (the Saga of the Toilet Seat is still ongoing, or will be once we find the receipt), making lists and itineraries and plans for the ten (ten!) days we'll be spending in NYC.

We've got to clean out the fridge though; looks like there may be dinner guests tonight or tomorrow. Maybe J's sister and her boyfriend, both vegetarians. Hmmm, lessee here; we've got some leeks, a half-pound of cremini mushrooms, some carrots, an eggplant, several eggs, a butternut squash, some potatoes… it's party time! I'll just make a little chicken for the Professor and me.

As she gets older, the Professor is taking more and more of an interest in feeding herself, and more and more of an interest in eating what Mommy and Daddy are eating. Her usual meals now include bits of whatever we're eating, whether it be French toast or roast chicken, or whatever. She shows her approval through a sort of closed-mouth hooting, and by banging on the high chair. She registers her disapproval by dropping the food on the floor. She has a definite taste for Thai and Cajun food, is okay with Vietnamese and Chinese, not too crazy about Mexican. She likes most fruits, is not too fond of carrots, and will eat her body weight in French toast if we let her. Best of all, she likes to share her food. She'll take a bit of whatever and hold it out to J, or me and insist loudly that we eat it. The look of delight in her eyes when we eat from her hands is indescribable. Of course, she wouldn't be my daughter if she didn't have a mischievous streak, so she'll occasionally pull it away just as we're biting down. It's wonderful to see her growing and developing a taste for so many things. I have no doubts that she'll develop little dietary quirks later, but for now she loves almost everything.

Physical conditioning update: my belly is not gone, but it is smaller. It would shrink even more if I worked out every single day. I've been incorporating other calisthenics along with the three basic Matt Furey exercises, and two things continually amaze me. One, how out of shape I really am. Two, how much my body can still achieve. Even after years of neglect, I can still do squats and handstands against the wall. On the day I can do that damn hands-free bridge, though, I'll throw a party or something. I'm finding that my back muscles are really weak. Even just a few repetitions of certain exercises is enough to put me in agony for three days. Ah well, it's worth it to be in better shape.

Plus, the sound of my daughter laughing at her silly daddy is worth every twinge and ache.
